WSU Makes Princeton Review’s ‘Best in Northeast’ List for 14th Year

Worcester State University was recognized over the past week by The Princeton Review as one of the best 229 colleges in the Northeast region of the U.S. for 2018. The University is one of only three public universities in Massachusetts to make the well-regarded list, joining the University of Massachusetts Amherst and UMass Boston.

The Princeton Review says that the regional lists consist of colleges it considers “academically outstanding and well worth consideration in your college search.” The designation marks the 14th year in a row that Worcester State has earned this honor.

In a survey, WSU undergraduate students told The Princeton Review that they value the fact that “the school works hard to help students find themselves” and that they benefit from “small class sizes” as well as “many free services that are aimed at helping students excel,” ranging from tutoring to counseling.

Students describe their professors as “knowledgeable” and “incredibly kind” with “strong…background in the topics that they teach” as well as “open to questions” and promoting “open-minded discussions.” Best of all, The Princeton Review pointed out, the student respondents said that WSU professors clearly want “their students to succeed and will go above and beyond to make sure that happens.”

Students also told The Princeton Review that their peers are “warm and welcoming” and “extremely focused on activism on campus and in the community.” Overall, they reported that the student body is “very diverse” with a healthy mix of “traditional and nontraditional students” as well as “many different languages spoken” around campus.

In addition to this ranking, WSU was recognized recently by Money Magazine as one of the 2017-2018 best colleges in the country, and by Zippia.com as having one of the top ten nursing as well as economics programs in Massachusetts.
